FIG (Faculty Inquiry Group) on Student Voice

Resource Title:  FIG (Faculty Inquiry Group) on Student Voice

Brief Description of Resource:  This FIG (Faculty Inquiry Group) project took place in 2010. A number of FIGs were formed at the SSCC campus, and two librarians decided to join a FIG together with discipline faculty interested in developing Student Voice. A simple rubric was developed to assess Voice. The librarians worked with an intermediate ESL, ENGL 101, ENGL 102, and PSYC instructor. The Voice project was done across four courses ranging from intermediate ESL through a content course in the discipline of psychology. The common thread of the FIG was to help students develop their own personal voices, with an ultimate goal of helping students to avoid plagiarism in their writing. A simple rubric was developed to assess students’ success. Included: description of the project and rubric.
